Introduction to Stretch Marks
What are Stretch Marks?
In medical terminology, stretch marks are called "Striae Gravidarum". Stretch marks normally appear on the upper arms, breasts, abdomen, thighs, hips and butt and generally occur with females. However, stretch marks do occur on the male body as well. Stretch marks are also a regular part of puberty. Stretch marks are little lines on the body that form from tissue under your skin tearing caused from rapid growth or over-stretching. The collagen fibers and proteins in the layer under the skin called the dermis are damaged and cause permanent scaring. It is a frequent condition that does not cause any significant medical problems but can be of cosmetic concern for some individuals.
